Tokyo Olympics 2020 Schedule and Betting Tips

The Tokyo Summer Olympics 2020 are back in 2020 after being delayed by the effects of Covid-19. Sports fans across the world will be tuning in for this huge sporting event that will take place in Tokyo, Japan.

This is the first time the Olympic games were rescheduled.

The 2020 Summer Olympics  will be largely held behind closed doors which means that spectators will not be allowed for these events.

Here are some cool things to look forward to during the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics:

New Sports in 2020 Olympics

Many new sports will be introduced during the  2020 Tokyo Olympics. This is partly due the decision of the International Olympic Committee that allows the host to add new sports.

Some of the new sports that will be introduced in the Tokyo Olympics will be 3×3 Basketball, freestyle BMX, madison cycling, karate, sport climbing, surfing, skateboarding. We will also see the return of baseball and softball which were last played in the 2008 Olympics. This comes as no surprise as Baseball is Japan’s most popular sport.

Tokyo Summer Olympics 2020 Logo

There was some controversy surrounding the initial logo for the Tokyo Olympics with claims being made that the logo was plagiarized from the logo of the Théâtre de Liège in Belgium.

The design is meant to “express a refined elegance and sophistication that exemplifies Japan.

Tokyo Summer Olympics 2020 Mascot

The mascot for the Tokyo Olympics is called Miraitowa. The mascots were selected from a competition process which took place between late 2017 and early 2018. A total of 2042 were submitted and three were shortlisted.

Japanese elementary school students were invited to make the final pick and they picked Ryo Taniguchi’s design. Miraitowa is named after the Japanese words for future and his character and is described as very athletic who has a “strong sense of justice” and is described as “very athletic”. Mirowata has the ability to teleport anywhere instantly.

No international Spectators allowed for the Tokyo Olympics

Because of the pandemic and the fact that a lot of the Japanese population failed to receive vaccinations against the virus, the government along with the organizing committee decided to take strict measures in order to protect the Japanese people.

Overseas spectators were banned from entering Japan and their tickets were refunded.

Most events will be held behind closed doors

As mentioned earlier, most events during the Tokyo Olympics will be held behind closed doors. Only events that are taking place outside of Tokyo will be allowed at limited capacity, something which could be a major disappointment for many sports fans in Japan.

This decision was made on July 8 after a rise in Covid 19 cases in Tokyo.

“Green Medals” During the Tokyo Olympics

Japan is often touted as one of the most innovative countries in the world and they proved this during the Tokyo Olympics this year by making medals from recycled electronics.

Over 8 million tons of electronic waste was collected from businesses and citizens to produce all the medals for the Tokyo Olympics starting from February 2017.

Opening Ceremony of Tokyo Olympics 2021

The opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics will be taking place on July 23 2021 at the Olympic Stadium in Tokyo. Emperor Naruhito is expected to formally open the games. The event will take place behind closed doors with social distancing. Only about 1000 VIP guests will be physically present during the opening ceremony for this opening ceremony.

Many of the performances are pre recorded while the live performances will be undertaken with proper social distancing.

The parade of nations that is a tradition of the Olympic Games will take place as usual.

Belgium vs Portugal Euro 2020 Predictions & Betting Tips

The Belgium vs Portugal match will the 4th game in the knockout rounds in Euro 2020. This match is scheduled to take place on June 27 at 2100 hrs Central European Summer Time at the Estadio de La Cartuja stadium in Seville, Spain.

Belgium Form, Predicted line up and Tactics

Belgium qualified for EURO 2020 in style by winning each of their 10 matches and conceding just 3 goals, the fewest conceded by any team in qualifying, except for Turkey, which also conceded just 3 goals.

Roberto Martinez has been the head coach of the Belgian National Team since 2016. Under Martinez, Belgium finished 3rd at the World Cup in 201 and have seen their longest run as number 1 by FIFA since September 2018.

Check out our predictions for Italy vs England in the Euro 2020 final

Belgium has continued this fine form by winning all of its group stage games. Belgium are tied with Italy in the second spot for the most number of goals scored during the group stage.

Belgium also had 14 attempts on goal which is the 5th highest number of attempts on goals during the group stage of Euro 2020.

The Belgian team is well organized and well drilled. Belgium tends to play with a 3-4-3 formation that is more like a 3-2-4-1 in attack. Belgium likes to build up the game patiently, with one of the central defenders even rushing forward with the ball to help the game move forward.

Unsurprisingly, with a formation like this three centre-backs are used, one of which is a more ball-playing centre-back.

The wing backs are often very hard at work. One of them, usually the left wing, is more of an attacking fullback and more of a wide midfielder. This position is usually taken by Nacer Chadli or Thorgan Hazard, both of whom play on the left.

The other fullback is more of a defensive fullback. This position is usually filled by Timothy Castagne or Thomas Meunier.

This may leave a gap on the left for opposition teams to exploit, but Belgium has two talented defensive midfielders to counter this threat.

On to the midfield. Belgium plays a fairly defensive midfield consisting of 2 defensive midfielders who create opportunities from behind and help the central defenders. These positions are filled by Axel Witsel and Youri Tielemans or Yannick Carrasco.

The front three is where the magic happens for Belgium. Romelu Lukaku is the main striker and goalkeeper. He is strong and can fight for long balls and hold them for the rest of his teammates to attack him.

He is flanked by arguably one of the best attacking midfielders in the world, Kevin De Bruyne on the right, and one of the best attacking wingers in the world, Eden Hazard. Hazard tends to float in the penalty area, while De Bruyne is more of the creative force.

Hazard has not played many recent appearances for Belgium and many other talented strikers have started in his place, including Leandro Trossard, Michy Batshuayi and 19-year-old Jérémy Doku.

During the group stage in Euro 2020 Yannick Carrasco started in place of Eden Hazard for the first 2 games.

At the age of 34, Dries Mertens also starts a few matches and his experience helps to train younger attackers such as Doku.

How will Belgium Will Play Against Portugal

Belgium like to build up patiently from the back, Vertoghen and Alderweireld will drift a bit wide, Denayer will stay central while the wingbacks Thorgan Hazard and Meunier will push high, almost touching the edge of the field.

Belgium has a preference for attacking from the left. With Vertonghen forming a triangle with Thorgan Hazard and the left forward. The Midfielder (Dendoncker in this case) will try to joing this triangle if these players are outnumbered.

They will then look to either release Thorgan Hazard out wide or make a forward pass for the left sided forward into the box.

Portugal will try to cover all passing options on this side. In this case, Belgium will pass backward and switch play to the other side as you can see in the picture below

If the opposition defence is not quick enough to keep up with Belgium’s transition on the right this is what essentially happens…

De Bruyne drops a little deeper and looks to free Meunier quickly on the right who in turn tries to whip a cross into the box.
Meanwhile Thorgan Hazard makes a diagonal run into the box especially if Meunier breaks free on the right.
Dendoncker and Tielemans try to win the ball in this advanced positions when the defence tries to make clearances.
Tielemans is also a threat just outside the box because he is great at shooting from distance.

If De Bruyne can’t free Meunier, he plays quick passes with either him on the right or the players around him on the left and runs into the box to receive and either score or continue the move.

De Bruyne can also choose to shoot from distance or create through balls for the attackers on his left.

During an attack the 3 defenders also push high and then tuck inside when the attack is progressing.

Keep in mind that Belgium has other ways to attack such as hitting teams on the counter right from the middle. Something they could easily do with Portugal as their midfielders try to press Belgium which might leave spaces for Belgium to exploit for players to make line breaking passes into Portugal’s side of the field.

However, Belgium does have a weakness, one of which we mentioned earlier that they are vulnerable to counter attacks when the wide wingbacks move forward and don’t track back.

Portugal could whip in a long ball over Vertonghen and Alderweireld, both of whom are beginning to lose their pace.

How will Belgium Line up against Portugal

We expect Hazard to be given a start. If he doesn’t seem to perform well he might be taken off later and Carrasco will take his place. De Bryune was eased into the squad after a face injury he suffered during the champions league final.

Castagne is out injured so Meunier will definitely start.

3-4-3

Portugal Form, Predicted line up and Tactics

Portugal had been in fine form before their opening game in Euro 2020.  They built on this form with their 3-0 thrashing of Hungary after losing 4-2 to Germany. The game against Germany highlighted a key weakness in Portugal’s tactics, their defensive discipline.

Germany would stretch the play wide which would put a lot of pressure on portugal backline. The midfielders would not track back quick enough which allowed Germany’s wide men to have the freedom to whip in crosses as they defenders were focused on marking the players inside the box.

Portugal seemed to have learned from this mistake with attackers falling back and trying to close the gap on the wings.

However, Portugal was still unsuccessful at defending well as a team. When they would press, they could not quickly close the gap that the pressing player would leave which allowed France to make key passess.

Portugal conceded 6 goals during these matches. Of all the teams that qualified for the round of 16 Portugal has conceded the most number of goals.

That being said, Portugal created a lot of chances. Portugal’s xG (a statistical measure of potential goals) during the game was 2.46 compared to France’s 1.73.

Portugal are tied with Belgium and Italy in the 2nd spot for the most goals scored during the group stage in Euro 2020.

But defensive frailties aside, let’s see how Portugal could play against Belgium.

How will Portugal play against Belgium

Usually Portugal play a 4-2-3-1 with 2 holding midfielders and 3 attacking mdifielders and 1 forward.

Portugal will try to employ the same tactics they used against France. This means that they would play with an extra man in midfield in a 4-3-3 formation which looks like 4-5-1 when Portugal don’t have the ball and are defending.

Portugal would be looking to hit Belgium on the counter and will do their best to protect themselves from attacks from wide areas.

The defence is likely to remain unchanged unless Semedo picks up an injury because he was taken off as a precaution after falling down on the pitch with what looked like muscle cramps.

Guerrero will be a real threat for Belgium from the left but he would be working very hard to fall back and prevent counter attacks from Belgium.

Joao Moutinho and Renato Sanches started just ahead of Danilo. Danilo was the defensive midfielder while these two were more box to box. Renato Sanches had an excellent game against France and he was very energetic in pushing forward as well as falling back and fighting for the ball.

Bruno Fernandes did not start the game in order to accommodate the extra man in midfield. He came on in Bernardo Silva’s place in the second half.

Ronaldo will drop deeper to collect the ball and to wait for counter attacking moves. Portugal will try to stay compact with Danilo Pereira playing just ahead of the defence. Jota and Bernardo Silva will prefer to cut inside and join Ronaldo, allowing room for Guerreiro and Semedo to bomb forward from the wide .

Renato sancho will be essential in distributing the ball and starting attacking moves. He could either move forward, or create overlapping runs for Guerreriro.

Portugal predicted line up against Belgium

We expect the line up to be unchanged. Bruno Fernandes hasn’t been able to replicate the amazing form he had at club level with Manchester United and he would probably be dropped in favor of Renato Sanches.

Belgium vs Portugal Euro 2021 Predictions

In the past 5 games between these two teams, Portugal won 3 games and 2 games ended up in a draw.
However, you should keep in mind that the last 5 games between these two teams was played in 2018,2016,2007,2007 and 2000.

A lot can change in a span of even 2 years so we should ignore these statistics while predicting the outcome of this game.

We will be basing our prediction for Belgium vs Portugal on the following criteria:

The tactics of each teamThe weaknesses and strengths of each teamAnalyzing how each team could potentially win

Here are the predictions we have for Belgium vs Portugal  based on these criterias:

Belgium will push very high up the pitch while Portugal will try to stay compact. Belgium will try to build patiently like we mentioned before and try to draw Portugese players out of position and then exploit that space that gets left behind.
Portugal will expect Belgium to do exactly that and they will tweak their tactics to press high as a team and get better at using the Catenaccio. Catenaccio is a defensive tactic  that involves tight man marking and the use of an additional defensive player known as ‘sweeper’ or ‘libero’ (in Italian) to form a double line of defense.

The midfielder’s role will be to shield the defense and occasionally to take the ball forward by picking up the balls from the sweeper.
In Portugal’s case, that “sweeper” would be Danilo Pereiera.

Although Portugal seemed to have improved defensively in their final group stage game against France after losing against Germany, there were many instances where they were unable to press as a team. One player would break free and the rest of his team mates were not quick enough to cover that space allowing France to use that space to make line breaking passes.
Based on these facts, one of two things can happen. The first possibility is that Portugal will get better at fixing this problem or these problems will keep showing up.
Assuming Portugal fix this problem, they will be lethal while counter attacking and nullifying Belgium. Portugal will try to attack from wide especially with Guerrero on counter attacks.
We do expect Portugal to be better defensively but we still think that they will be too adventurous just like they were against France.Although Belgium’s central defenders have a lot of experience in regards to reading the play, the Portuguese have a lot of creativity and pace in midfield which they will use to the maximum to hit Belgium on the break. As we mentioned earlier, Vertonghen and  Alderweireld will struggle to keep up with them.
This leads us to believe that this will be a very high scoring and tight game. Both teams are great at moving the ball directly and exploiting each other’s weaknesses. This is a hard game to predict and could go either way but we believe Belgium will win 3-2 because overall, they have more balance in terms of attack and defence.

Belgium vs Portugal Betting Tips

If you read our articles on football betting systems and football betting tips, you would realize Belgium vs Portugal is the perfect match to place a bet on in Euro 2020.

The reason for that is simple, the odds for both teams are above 2.0 and it will be a closely contested match.

This means that you can triple your money by betting on Portugal or a draw and double your money if you bet on Belgium.

That being said, we have a betting tip for you that could help you win some money no matter who wins…

Place one bet on Portugal to win and one bet(of equal amount) on Belgium  to win. In this case you only lose your money if there is a draw but that is unlikely to happen in such a crucial game.

So essentially what you do is you split your budget for the game. Let’s say you have a budget of €200 for this game. You place one bet of €100 on Portugal and another €100 on Belgium.

If Portugal wins your Profit percentage would be 52.5% because your Profit would be €305-€200=€105.

If Belgium wins you would still end up with a 23% profit (€246-€200=€46. 46 is 23% of 200).

Sure, this system means that your profit percentage would be lower if you just bet on one team (205 % profit if you just bet on Portugal and 146% if you just bet on Belgium) but this system ensures that you don’t lose any money.

Keep in mind that this is not a fool proof system. If the match ends in a draw you will lose but as we pointed out earlier, the likelihood of a draw is very low.

England vs Germany Euro 2021 Predictions & Betting Tips

England vs Germany Euro 2021 Predictions & Betting Tips

England vs Germany will be the seventh game in the knockout stage in Euro 2020. The England vs Germany match will take place on June 29 at 1800 hrs Central Eastern European Summer Time at the Wembley Stadium in London.

England Form, Predicted line up and Tactics

England qualified to the knockout stage in Euro 2021 as winners of group D. England won 2 of their games and drew 1 game and finished the group stage without conceding a single goal. This is the first time they have qualified for the knockout stage without conceding a single goal in a major tournament since the 1986 World Cup.

England have been pretty solid defensively and have now kept a clean sheet in 15 of their last 19 games and have only conceded 5 goals in these games.

Going into this game against Germany, England have played 8 games in 2021 and have been unbeaten in these games. England has also won 7 of these games and drew one of them and just conceded once in all these games.

But while England is defensively solid and disciplined they haven’t exactly come across as a very attacking team. England hasn’t scored more than 1 goal in their last 5 games.

England’s second game in the Euros against Scotland ended in a 0-0 draw and it wasn’t a match that neutral fans would have loved to watch. England created the 4th fewest gol scoring attempts amongst 24 teams during the group stage.

Check out our predictions for the Euro 2020 Final!

England is also the first team in the European Championships to top their group with the fewest goals scored (2).

In 2021 England shifted from a 3-4-3 formation to a 4-3-3 formation. They like to build up attacks paitently from the back and prefer to counter-attack quickly with their pacey forwards.

As neutral fans we personally felt that England were playing a bit too cautiously in the group stages instead of playing more directly but from a tactical perspective they did a good job in maintaining their shape and preventing attacks.

We expect England to switch back to a 3-4-3 shape in the England vs Germany match in the knockout stage of Euro 2020.

The reason for that is quite simple, England would want a numerical advantage in midfield, to prevent attacks from the wings. England would seek to quickly attack Germany on the break as soon as they win the ball.

If England are in possession of the ball we expect them to build up slowly and patiently, prioritizing high possession and attacking Germany quickly as soon as they find space with line breaking passes.

During the group stage however, we didn’t see England do this because they were playing cautiously. It will be interesting to see whether England will be more aggressive and direct against Germany.

How England will attack

Southgate tends to set up his side defensively but in such an important game he might be a bit more daring.

Usually, the defenders tend to stay deep but in this game he could push them higher up the pitch and allow them more freedom considering their center backs are ball playing center backs and have the ability to progress play and make line breaking passes.

England will attack from width with their fullbacks Luke Shaw and Kieran Trippier. Harry Kane likes to drop deep to collect the ball, make forward passes to his team mate and then rush into attack.

Maguire can whip in long balls from the left, while Stones can push up when needed and can form a diamond between himself, Kane and the two midfielders Rice and Kalvin Phillips.

Kyle Walker is a natural right back and if more pressure needs to be put on Germany, Walker can push forward and offer more passing options on the right for this diamond.

Walker could also interchange with Trippier in attack and his position can help prevent attacks on England’s right side.

Sterling and Foden will cut inside the box instead of staying wide.

These two will have to work very hard to fall back when England loses possession.

England Predicted line up

England will be missing out on Mason Mount after both he and Ben Chilwell were forced to quarantine after they hugged their Chelsea teammate Billy Gilmour during the England vs Scotland game and Billy Gilmour tested positive for Covid after the game.

He could have started from the right because he is also good at falling back and defending.

3-4-3

Germany Form, Predicted line up and Tactics

After a 15 year stint as the head coach of Germany, Joachim Low will resign after Euro 2021.

Germany had mixed fortunes before the start of Euro 2020 .Germany’s form in 2021 has been mixed. Prior to Euro 2020 they played 5 games, winning 3, drawing 2 and losing 2-1 to North Macedonia.

Even though Germany lost 1-0 to France, the Germans played well, creating many chances, especially in the second half.

Germany did quite well against Portugal by stretching the play wide and involving Ginter in attack.

However they were very poor against Hungary both defensively and in attack before Muller, Goretzka and Musiala were introduced to help them score 2 goals and draw level against Hungary and qualify as runners up in Group F.

Germany’s mainstay in defence in previous tournaments, Mats Hummels was dropped by the manager in 2019 who said that he would plan without Hummels for the foreseeable future, along with his club teammates Jérôme Boateng and Thomas Müller.

Jogi Low experimented with many players but failed to find his perfect center backs and he reintroduced Hummels and Muller to the squad.

While Muller has justified his reintroduction to the squad, Hummels has struggled in Euro 2020.

He conceded an own goal against France and had a miserable performance against Hungary.

Due to lack of options at the back the preferred center backs now seem to Rudiger and Hummels if 2 center backs are being played while Ginter is added if Germany sticks to a formation requiring 3 center backs.

From a 4-2-3-1 formation Die Manschafft has shifted to a 3-4-3 formation in recent games.

Kimmich has retained his place as the preferred right wingback and his attacking prowess from the wings has been particularly impressive.

We expect Germany to press high against England.

Toni Kroos seems to be the mainstay in midfield while he can be partnered with Gundogan who had an excellent season with Manchester City or Leon Goretzka.

Goretzka missed the game against France due to injury and he is unlikely to start against Portugal. But he put in a wonderful performance when he rescued Germany with his goal in the second half against Hungary.

Gosens was excellent against France and he will be expected to start as the left wingback.

Toni Kroos and Gundogan will start in midfield due to uncertainty surrounding Goretzka’s fitness.

Germany lacks a proper striker. Gnabry has often started in this position, Timo Werner often slots into this position but they lack clinical finishing. This was obvious in their game against France where many amazing opportunities were created without being converted.

How Germany will attack

Germany will look to press England very aggressively and try to cover Declan Rice so that he doesn’t have passing options and struggles to progress the ball.

This tactic was used by Scotland to great effect against England which resulted in the game ending in a 0-0 draw.

Germany knows that England is a hard team to break down and are capable of making line breaking aerial balls, something Hummels had struggled with so they will be wary of this and the defensive line might not be pushed too high.

They might use the tactic they used against Portugal to attack from the wings by adding the wide centerbacks. In the game against Portugal, Kimmich would drop deep, draw out Bernardo Silva, while Ginter sneaked around from his defensive positions, progress the ball and make crosses into the box or make long ball to the other wingback, Gosens.

If they can’t make this move on the right, they will do it from the left by passing backwards.

Another way Germany could attack is shown in the picture above. In this case Germany is attacking from the left. The Left midfielder, Gosens is a bit deeper while kimmich is also sitting a bit deeper than usual but higher than Gosens.

This would give Germany many options like doing what we discussed above with Gosens making a long ball to kimmich, or playing combinations with havertz and kross to either cut inside the box while havertz moves wide to make a cross or allowing kroos to make a diagonal run so that he can make a cross, or move forward and occupy the space Havertz leaves as he drifts wide.

The space that Kroos would leave would then be filled by Gosens. This would help protect Germany from counter attacks.

England vs Germany Euro 2021 Predictions

Matches like this with two equally matched teams are very hard to predict. That being said, we will try to make a calculated guess for this Euro 2020 knockout match between England and Germany.

We will try to predict this game based on the tactics these two teams employed during the group stage. When it comes to predicting England’s tactics for this game though, that is easier said than done.

We already mentioned how England played during the group stage but until this point in the competition they haven’t come across a tough team so they could switch things up instead of the cautious football they played during the group stage.

We personally feel that they will continue to play this cautious style unless they concede a goal first.

We won’t be surprised to see this game being decided in extra time or penalties.

We already pointed out the weaknesses that Germany has been suffering from during the competition and even before, which was the leaky defence,Hummels being the primary culprit.

We don’t expect this game to have plenty of goals but then again that depends on two factors:

England conceding an early goalEngland’s decision to play more boldly.

Raheem Sterling scored both of England’s goals during the group stage while Germany’s top scorer is Kai Havertz and he scored 2 goals as well.

England vs Germany Betting Tips

If you read our articles on football betting systems and football betting tips, you would realize England vs Germany is the perfect match to place a bet on in Euro 2020.

The reason for that is simple, the odds for both teams are above 2.0 and it will be a closely contested match.

This means that you can triple your money by betting on England or a draw and double your money if you bet on Germany.

That being said, we have a betting tip for you that could help you win some money no matter who wins…

Place one bet on England to win and one bet(of equal amount) on Germany  to win. In this case you only lose your money if there is a draw but that is unlikely to happen in such a crucial game.

So essentially what you do is you split your budget for the game. Let’s say you have a budget of €200 for this game. You place one bet of €100 on England and another €100 on Germany.

If Germany wins your Profit percentage would be 31.03% because your Profit would be €290-€200=€90.

If England wins you would still end up with a 21.57% profit (€255-€200=€55. 55 is 21.57% of 200).

Sure, this system means that your profit percentage would be lower if you just bet on one team (190 % profit if you just bet on Germany and 155% if you just bet on England) but this system reduces the chances that you will lose your money.

Keep in mind that this is not a fool proof system. If the match ends in a draw you will lose but as we pointed out earlier, the likelihood of a draw is very low.

Belgium vs Italy Euro 2021 Prediction and Betting Tips

Belgium vs Italy will be the second game in the quarterfinals of Euro 2020. The Belgium vs Italy match will take place on June 2 at 2100 hrs Central Eastern European Summer Time at the Allianz Arena in Munich,Germany.

Belgium Form, potential line up and Tactics

Belgium qualified for the quarter finals in Euro 2020 by defeating Portugal 1-0 in the round of 16. With this victory over Portugal Belgium have equalled their longest winning streak at major tournaments, winning five in a row for the second time (both under Roberto Martínez).

Belgium have won 10 of their 11 games across the World Cup and European Championships since Martínez took charge.

Belgium’s last match against Portugal was not easy. The first half was a bit slow and boring but Thorgan Hazard’s amazing goal from outside the box changed the tempo of the game in the second half.

Portugal was attacking viciously in the second half especially after the introduction of Joao Felix and Bruno Fernandes.

This is also reflected in the statistics…

Belgium had 6 attempts during the game, with 1 attempt on target while Portugal had a massive 23 attempts during the game.

Belgium succeeded primarily because of three reasons:

They were a well drilled and disciplined squad.Belgium were tactically fluid, they could easily form into a compact shape, spread out and press high when in possession and finally, they were also good at quick counter attacks.Belgium were also excellent at closing space.

Keep these three points in mind because these three points will help you understand our prediction for the Belgium vs Italy game in the quarter final of Euro 2020.

Check out our predictions for Italy vs England in the Euro 2020 final

This performance is not surprising from Belgium. Unlike many teams like Germany whose main players retired after their peak, Belgium’s squad has retained its main talent while introducing newer players who play regularly.

Belgium tactics

Belgium lines up in a 3-4-3 formation. When Belgium needs to defend the two wide midfielders, Thorgan Hazard and Thomas Meunier drop back in defence while the two forwards fall back in midfield and Lukaku stays ahead. Effectively, in defence, Belgium’s shape resembles a 4-5-1 in defence.

Belgium likes to build from the back and attack from the left. The wide midfielders push wide while the two wide forwards cut inside the box. The midfielders are the key part in this system as they create scintillating crosses and passes into the box and or can make overlapping runs into the box and shoot.

The other key component of this system is one of the best creative players in the world, Kevin De Bruyne. We will explain his role through the picture below that explains how Belgium attack.

Belgium like to pile on the pressure on their opponents by pressing their team high up the pitch as you can see from the picture above.

The three man defence is sitting at the halfway line. Thorgan Hazard can go wide and make crosses. If the ball is on the right, He will stay a bit further back and wait for the opportunity to burst into the box.

We saw him do exactly that in his goal against Portugal in the round of 16.

In attack, Belgium’s shape looks like a 3-2-5. The two wide midfielders join the 3 forwards while the two midfielders stay a bit further back to try and win the ball if Belgium loses possession.

De Bruyne creates a lot of options and chances because of the way he plays. He can run into the box, play one-two passes with the right midfielder and drift wide to create crosses, he can run straight if Belgians are attacking from the left.

Apart from his off the ball movements, if he gets the ball he can create many chances which are represented by the red curved lines in the picture above.

He can create through balls for Meunier on the right, stretch the play and pass it to the left midfielder, create through balls and aerial long balls for the forwards or he can add extra pressure by letting one of the midfielders (usually tielemans) join the attack and an an extra man in attack in the box and giving him a chances to shoot.

Belgium Weakness

Belgium are a solid side with good defensive discipline. But they are prone to quick counter attacks because their centerbacks Alderweireld,Vermaelen and Vertonghen are 32,35 and 34 respectively.

Their experience does help them position properly, set effective offside traps and anticipate the game well but they have to rely on the 2 midfielders in front of them to prevent these long balls.

Belgium can also be exposed in one of the flanks (usually the left) where they attack from which Italy could exploit.

Belgium can be especially exposed to risk if one of their midfielders joins the attack and fails to track back.

In the game against Portugal though the Belgium players showed good defensive discipline often falling back and preventing Portugal from attacking, but when Portugal brought on more attacking players they showed that Belgium’s exceptional and compact defense can still be broken down.

When De Bruyne was not present Belgium weren’t able to create a lot of chances during the group stage. He was taken off at half time and we are waiting for an update regarding his injury. His absence will affect Belgium’s opportunities for creating chances.

Belgium Predicted Line up For Belgium vs Italy

Hazard and De Bruyne were taken off in Belgium’s game against Portugal because of injury concerns. According to Belgium’s manager, Roberto Martinez both of them are set to miss out the quarter final game against Italy.

Italy Form, potential line up and Tactics

Italy qualified for the quarterfinals after defeating Austria 2-1 in extra time in the round of 16.  After their victory over Austria Italy are now undefeated in 31 games. Italy’s last defeat was in September 2018 in a nations league game against Portugal.

This was the first real test for Italy in the European Championship after they cruised through the group stage conceding ZERO goals and scoring 7 goals in 3 games.

We have covered Italy’s tactics in our previous match reviews in slotfreespin but we will be covering them nonetheless here and demonstrate how Italy played in the group stage and against Austria.

We will then highlight their strengths and weaknesses and predict how they will play against Belgium and then try to make a prediction based on this information. If you like to bet on football games we will then be giving you some nice betting tips for the Belgium vs Italy game in Euro 2020.

How Italy played during Euro 2020- the numbers

Italy is currently ranked 7th best team in Europe according to Fifa’s ranking. Italy was in group A of Euro 2020 where they faced Switzerland who are ranked 13th,Wales who are ranked 17th and Turkey who are ranked 29th in Europe.

Italy beat Turkey 3-0, a side that had conceded just 3 goals during the qualifiers for Euro 2020. They then went on to beat Switzerland 3-0 , a team which is also very hard to break down because they defend very well but can also attack on the counter and they did the same with Wales who can also be deadly on the counter but is hard to break down.

In the group stage Italy demonstrated that they could break down teams that can sit back and defend.

This reflects in their stats during the group stage:

Italy scored 7 goals. They were tied with Belgium and Portugal on 2nd spot for the most number of goals during the group stage.Italy had also the second highest attempts on goal at 60, only 1 shy of Denmark who had 61 attempts. There was a clear gap between these two teams and other teams. The team with the third highest attempts was Switzerland, with 47 attempts, 13 less than Italy.

How Italy played during Euro 2020- the tactics

Along with France, Italy is known to be the fashion capital of the world. Just like the French the Italians are known to be elegant and this reflects in the style of Football they play under their current manager Roberto Mancini.

Under Mancini Italy:

Usually plays in a 4-3-3 formationPlays a direct style of football with high pressingBuilds from the back and has the ability to quickly turn defence into attack.

Italy’s formation looks something like this.

In defence, the other 2 attackers Insigne and Berardi would fall back with the three men in midfield (Jorginho,Locatelli and Barella) to make it look more like a 4-5-1 formation with Immobile as the lone striker staying in front of them waiting for the counter attack when Italy won the ball.

It’s in attack though Italy would look like the picture below:

So when Italy were building up attacks, the entire team would push very high up the pitch with one defender, Bonucci staying a bit further back, Chiellini pushing a bit further forward, Florenzi the right back, forming a back three and flanking Chiellini, Jorginho just staying ahead of them.

This allowed them to form a diamond and create many passing opportunities to crack open compact defences from the back while committing men forward.

The Left back Spinnazola was given the freedom to attack from wide and whip in crosses into the box while the wide left forward Insigne would cut inside the box with Immobile.

Berrardi would stay a bit wide.

Italy had a preference for attacking from the left. If the attack was catching steam, then one of the midfielders, like barrella, would push into the box.

This meant that Italy had 5 men in the box. Keep this fact in mind. If you remember correctly Belgium would try to have 5 men in the box as well with the two wide midfielders joining the defenders.

The front three are dynamic and fluid, which means that they keep switching positions. The striker Ciro Immobile can fall back to collect the ball and make amazing through balls for the other two forwards.

In midfield Jorginho starts behind the other two midfielders who usually push forward more.

Jorginho is extremely talented in winning back balls and turning defence into attack by making through balls and long balls from deep.

Even Verratti and Locatelli are good at doing Jorginho’s job so if Jorginho is marked.

Italy Weakness

Just Like Belgium, Italy’s defenders are quite old and slow but very talented. Italy are also quite exposed for counter attacks from the left as Spinazzola likes to bomb forward. They may also be liable to broken down from the wide.

Italy Predicted line up

Verratti has justified his reintroduction to the squad. After missing out against Austria, Captain Chiellini and the right back Florenzi might be back at the back. Chiesa might get his first start in the Euro 2020 because of his performance and goal against Austria

Belgium vs Italy Euro 2021 Predictions

Belgium face a major disadvantage because of De Bruyne’s injury.
Belgium will struggle to create chances in De Bruyne’s absence just like they did during the group stage. Belgium will try to hit Italy on the counter to score.
Italy on it’s part would be better at countering Belgium because they have the players that can progress the ball quickly from defense into attack, Belgium can do that as well but statistically speaking they are not better than Italy in doing so .
Belgium would be more prone to counter attacks if they decide to push Tielemans further forward. The reason for this is simple, If Tielemans decides to be more daring and run into the box, Belgium would struggle to win the ball with just Witsel. Menieur would try to cover that space as well as the space on the right. If Meunier pushes up as well to fill this space, Belgium will have just men at the back and the could attack from the left easily with Spinnazola from a good counter attacking move.
Belgium can switch things up and try to attack Italy from the right instead of preferring to attack from the left. This would be done to exploit the space that Spinnazolla tends to leave behind when he is bombing forward from the left.
Belgium will be wary of the threat from Spinnazzola so they might instruct Tielemans to be careful so that Meunier can defend against a potential counter from Spinnazzola. Unless Belgium concedes they will exercise this caution.Italy on the other hand will have a numerical advantage in midfield. The reasons for this is how they attack vs how they defend. As we pointed out earlier, Italy falls back in a 4-5-1 whereas Belgium attacks in a 3-2-5 or a 2-3-6. This leaves Belgium at an advantage in front of goal because Italy have 4 men at the back.

But Jorginho can fall further back in the box and which means Italy have 5 men at the back but because Jorginho is very quick he can win the ball and progress it into midfield or pass it wide to Spinazzola which leaves Belgium at a disadvantage numerically.
Italy’s midfielders are better at making interceptions. Jorginho made an average of 2.8 interceptions per game, Verratti made 1 and Locatelli made 0.7. Whereas in the Belgium side Axel Witsel made an average of 0 and Tielemans made 1. Dendoncker who played in place of Witsel during most of the group stage also made 1.

This is a key stat because it gives us a picture of how likely a team’s midfield is to prevent dangerous balls from reaching their defenders.
Jorginho also made 0.8 through balls per game, whereas only Tielemans managed to make a through ball which was 0.3 per game. De Bruyne had the same average but if he misses the game then Belgium lose their creative edge even more.
This statistic seems to suggest that Italy again are at an advantage in making dangerous balls from midfield either during a counter attack or by patiently building up an attack.
A final piece of important statistic that Belgian fans might not like to see is the number of long balls created per game. Yet again, Italy’s midfield wins here. Verratti, Locatelli and Jorginho created 2.3,2.5 and 1.8 long balls per game compared to Belgium’s midfielders Witsel and Tielemans who managed only 1.7 per game. This means Italy’s midfielders are more skilled at making dangerous long balls to their forwards that could penetrate defences compared to Belgium’s midfielders.

Belgium though had De Bruyne who made an average of 4 which is slightly above Italy’s forward, Insigne who made 3.7. This yet again suggests that Belgium have a clear reliance on De Bruyne for creating chances. If De Bruyne misses the game Belgium will suffer even more in terms of chance creation.

Based on these factors we can see that both teams do have quality in depth, are in great form, and have complementary weaknesses.

But that being said, Italy has a slight edge in midfield thanks to Jorginho and Verratti and at least on paper are a stronger threat when it comes to recovering balls and progressing the balls to their attackers and quickly turning defence into attack.

Based on these facts we expect the Belgium vs Italy game to end 1-0.

Switzerland Form, potential line up and Tactics

Coming into the European Championship in 2021. Switzerland topped their group in the qualifiers and conceded only 6 goals. Prior to their opening game in Euro 2020 against Wales, Switzerland won all of the 5 games that they played in 2021.

Switzerland qualified for the round of 16 by finishing third in Group A. Switzerland were tied with 2nd placed Wales but dropped to third place because Wales had a better goal difference.

In the round of 16 Switzerland faced France. France was the clear favorite to win not only this game but also Euro 2020 considering they won the 2018 world cup, reached the final of Euro 2016 and were ranked the 2nd best team in the world by FIFA.

In their game against France, Switzerland put up an amazing performance where they dominated the first half and led 1-0 and then conceded 3 goals in the second half.

With a comfortable scoreline of 3-1, France seemed to predictably qualify for the quarterfinals. But Switzerland grabbed two goals in the last nine minutes thanks to goals from Seferovic and Gavarnovic which effectively drew the game.

France failed to break down Switzerland in extra time and Switzerland won the match on penalties.

This is the first time they have qualified for the quarter finals in the European Championship and the first time have done so in any major tournament since 1954.

Switzerland Tactics

The Swiz are known to be a very hardworking and organized people and this is reflected in their playing style.

The Switzerland Football team is renowned for their defensive solidity and positional discipline. This is reflected in the records they have set on the international stage.

Take the 2006 FIFA World Cup for example.  Switzerland set a FIFA World Cup record by being eliminated from the tournament despite not conceding a single goal. They were eliminated in the round of 16 after their game against Ukraine went into the penalties stage.

They would go on to top this record in the next world cup in 2010 where they didn’t concede a single goal until they faced Chile and set a World Cup record for consecutive minutes without conceding a goal.

As mentioned earlier Switzerland plays an organized style of football with a key emphasis on defensive solidity and positional discipline.

This is reflected in their preferred formation of 3-4-3  which in play looks more like a 5-4-1 with 2 wide midfielders joining the center backs and two of the attackers joining the 2 defensive midfielders in midfield.

Remo Freuler and Granit Xhaka have started in every game as these two midfielders.

Although the Swiz are are known to concede very few goals, they have conceded 8 goals in their last 4 games in Euro 2020. That is the highest number of goals conceded by any team that has qualified to the quarter finals in Euro 2021.

Switzerland loves to attack with width and stretch the play. The build up attacks very patiently from the wide. The left and right center back tend to drift a little bit wide to start up plays and stretch the field while the 2 defensive midfielders keep the team compact and prevent the pressure from the opposing team.

Both the wing backs then proceed to stay close to the line while progressing forward and are key in joining the attack. They do this by swinging in deadly crosses from out wide or cutting inside as the forwards flood the box.

The front 3 looks more like a front 2 with a supporting attacking midfielder. Breel Embolo and Haris Seferović have started every game as the 2 strikers and they are supported by Xherdan Shaqiri who plays just behind them.

Although Switzerland may looking like it’s a team that does not  score very often and its style of play may not suit many neutrals but if Switzerland concede they can suddenly up the tempo bringing on young creative and attacking players like Denis Zakaria and the more experienced Remo Freuler.

Neutral fans might enjoy rooting for Switzerland because they have the third highest number of attempts on goals.

Switzerland key players

With 4 assists,Steven Zuber provided the most assists so far during the Euros which makes him the player with the highest number of assists in any team during Euro 2020.

He is a left midfielder and has excellent crossing ability from out wide.

Sebastian Freuler is a player to watch out for as well, especially if the game goes into extra time because of his amazing stamina. Freuler ranks 4th in terms of distance covered during Euro 2020 so far.

In terms of defence, Manuel Akanji is excellent at winning balls and protecting his goalkeeper. Akanji has the 3rd highest number of ball recoveries in Euro 2020.

Switzerland Predicted Line up For Switzerland vs Spain

We expect Switzerland’s line up to be largely unchanged for the Switzerland vs Spain match in the quarter finals in Euro 2020.

3-4-3

Spain Form, potential line up and Tactics

Coming into Euro 2020 Spain was experiencing a great run of form. They qualified for this season’s nations league finals scoring 13 goals and conceding just 3 goals. During the nations league, only Belgium scored more goals than Spain and only Italy conceded fewer goals than Spain.

Spain has also lost only 1 of the 13 games they played prior to the Euro 2020. However, during this time they also struggled to decisively win their games because they won 6 of those games and drew 6 of them.

This propensity for matches ending in a stalemate seemed to continue in Spain’s first 2 games during the group stage against Sweden and Poland which ended 0-0 and 1-1 respectively.

Spain was struggling to break down these two sides and they lacked clinical finishing up front with the few chances they created.

But La Roja kicked into action in their final group stage game scoring 5 goals which earned them a spot in the round of 16 as runners up of group E.

Spain emerged victorious in a very entertaining and close game In their round of 16 match against Croatia as well, a game that ended 5-3 in extra time.

But after their scintillating attacking display against Croatia, Spain now has scored the highest number of goals and has the second highest attempts on goal that hit the target.

Spain Tactics

If there is one word to describe Spain’s tactics that word would be “fluid”. Spain is packed with talent across the field and it is difficult for teams to predict the way this team will pay. We will try our best to summarize Spain’s tactics during the European Championship.

Spain usually sets up in a 4-3-3 formationEither both or of the forwards like to stay wideEither both the full backs will join the attack from wide or one of them falls back to form a back 3.Spain like to play to play a possession based style of football with more emphasis on directnessThe forward is more of a “false 9”.The players are very adaptable in regards to with they have to do on the pitch

Let’s first talk about how Spain likes to set up first. As we mentioned earlier, Spain likes to set up in a 4-3-3.

The three midfielders are very fluid in their roles though. You always have a defensive/ holding midfielder like Busquets or Thiago who can protect the defence from counter attacks, recover balls, progress the ball from the back as well as creating scintillating long balls for the forwards.

The other two midfielders are very fluid, they can push up and join the attacks,go wide or one of them can form a double pivot with the holding midfielder.

This makes it hard for the opposition to know exactly what Spain will do.

The right back and left back stay wide but are cautious. However, when building up an attack, one of them pushes up a bit further up to create space for passes. This is usually the left back.

Unlike many teams we covered during Euro 2020, Spain’s forwards typically stay wide. But just like their team-mates across the field, one of them can cut inside, while the other stays wide. This creates space for one of the full backs to push ahead and whip in crosses.

If both the attackers stay wide, two of the 3 midfielders push up while the full backs stay a bit further back to provide defensive solidity.

Spain’s tactics are hard to cover exactly because of this reason, they can easily spread out in attack and just as effortlessly fall back into a compact shape in defence.

Another key aspect of Spain’s tactics is their propensity to press aggressively for the ball as soon as they lose possession.

Spain Predicted line up

We expect Spain’s line up to be largely unchanged. Although  Unai Simon’s error cost Spain a goal, he performed quite well as the game progressed. We decided to slot in De Gea in place of Unai Simon in goal but don’t be surprised if Unai Simon still starts because he has started every game in Euro 2020 instead of De Gea.

4-3-3

Switzerland vs Spain Euro 2020 Predictions

Euro 2020 has been full of surprises where the “weaker” teams beat significantly “stronger” teams. The Czech Republic who finished third in their group, beat the Netherlands who won each and every game and topped their group.

Switzerland itself, beat the favorites France. So when you read these predictions you should assume that these games can go either way.

That being said here is what we expect during the Switzerland vs Spain game in the quarter finals of Euro 2020:

Switzerland will try to build attacks patiently and hit Spain on the counter. They will do their best to deny Spain any space.

We expect Switzerland to counter attack from the left with Zuber pushing very high. Spain will in turn expect this and try to create an overload on the left and quickly switch the ball to the right so that Ferran Torres has the space to attack from the right and exploit the space that Zuber leaves behind.

If Zuber is good at tracking back, Spain will try to outfox Switzerland with its fluidity and will try to keep possession of the ball.

If Switzerland concedes a goal, that’s when things will liven up. We wouldn’t be surprised if this is a closely contested game that could be decided in extra time.

We think that Switzerland are more than capable of scoring and so our prediction for the Switzerland vs Spain game is that Spain will win in extra time and the scoreline would be 3-2.

Switzerland vs Spain Euro 2020 Odds

Bookmakers are offering the following odds for the Switzerland vs Spain game in Euro 2020:

From these odds we can clearly see that Spain are favorites to win this quarterfinal game.

Switzerland vs Spain Betting Tips

As we mentioned earlier in our Spain vs Switzerland prediction section of the article, we predict Spain to win 3-1. Because of the high odds for Spain we don’t advise you to bet on Spain  because you won’t get a big profit with a simple match bet.

The reason for this has been discussed in our articles on football betting systems and football betting tips where we discuss strategies that can help you to develop your own football betting system and make profitable football bets.

To cut a long story short, you should avoid placing match winner bets if the odds for your team are less than 2.0.

That being said handicap bets, over/under betting options can prove to be profitable bets not only for this Euro 2020 match between Spain and Switzerland but also most football games during the Euros with a clear favorite and underdog.

England Form, potential line up and Tactics

England qualified for the quarterfinal after defeating Germany 2-0 in the round of 16 at the Wembley Stadium in London.

This was a historic win for England on my many fronts. For starters, this was the first time in over 55 years that England defeated Germany in the knockout stage of a major tournament. The last time this happened was in the 1966 World Cup when the two sides met in the final and England defeated Germany to lift it’s first and only World Cup.

This win with a clean sheet also means that England are only the second side in European Championship history not to concede in any of their first four games of an edition of the tournament, after Germany in Euro 2016. The only time England managed to replicate this in a major tournament was yet again in the 1966 World Cup.

England fans have been disappointed with England’s performance in major tournaments in knockout stages but England’s fine performance during Euro 2020 can possibly help them believe that “Football is coming home!”

England Form

England have been unbeaten in the 9 games and they just drew one of those games games. England also has an amazing defensive record. They have not conceded a single goal in their last 7 games.

This is the first time they have qualified for the knockout stage without conceding a single goal in a major tournament since the 1986 World Cup.

England’s second game in the Euros against Scotland ended in a 0-0 draw and it wasn’t a match that neutral fans would have loved to watch. England created the 4th fewest goal scoring attempts amongst 24 teams during the group stage.

England is also the first team in the European Championships to top their group with the fewest goals scored (2).

In their match against Germany, England was struggling in the first 30 minutes but they started to match the Germans in the second half. England started to dominate after the introduction of Jack Grealish.

The boring and cautious England that we saw during the group stage seemed to have transformed into a much more dynamic and lively team when faced with a strong opposition.

The Ukraine vs England game will be interesting because of this fact as England have proved that they can increase the tempo in important games as we saw during their performance against Germany.

England Tactics

In 2021 England shifted from a 3-4-3 formation to a 4-3-3 formation. They like to build up attacks patiently from the back and prefer to counter-attack quickly with their pacey forwards.

As neutral fans we personally felt that England were playing a bit too cautiously in the group stages instead of playing more directly but from a tactical perspective they did a good job in maintaining their shape and preventing attacks.

England shifted to a 3-4-3 against Germany which worked quite well for England. This was probably done to counter Germany’s formation which also involved 3 center backs.

We expect England to continue with this formation in the Ukraine vs England match.

Usually, the defenders tend to stay deep but in this game he could push them higher up the pitch and allow them more freedom considering their center backs are ball playing center backs and have the ability to progress play and make line breaking passes.

The 3-4-3 might look like a defensive formation on paper but in attack teams employing this formation can look pretty exciting as you can see from the picture below.

This formation allows England’s full backs to be more like wide midfielders who can both bomb forward. England will attack from width with their fullbacks Luke Shaw and Kieran Trippier. Harry Kane likes to drop deep to collect the ball, make forward passes to his team mate and then rush into attack.

Maguire can whip in long balls from the left, while Stones can push up when needed and Kyle Walker can interchange with Trippier to bamboozle defenders.

Kyle Walker is a natural right back and if more pressure needs to be put on Ukraine,

Sterling and Grealish will usually cut inside the box instead of staying wide.

These two will have to work very hard to fall back when England loses possession.

The midfielders Declan Rice and Kalvin Phillips tend to not go forward and instead focus on protecting the defenders from counter attacks and progressing the balls to the forwards.

However, Kalvin Phillips can at times join attacks if necessary. We saw this in England’s game against Germany where he would sometimes run towards Germany’s box if he saw space open up in Germany’s box.

In defence, Luke Shaw and Kieran Trippier will back into defence. In midfield, either Grealish will fall back so that England’s shape looks more like a 5-3-2 or both Grealish and Sterling will fall back so that England look like a 5-4-1.

England were pressing Germany aggressively so we can expect a lot of that during the Ukraine vs England game.

England Predicted Line up For Ukraine vs England

We expect England’s line up to be largely unchanged apart from the introduction of Jack Grealish because of his game changing performance against Germany.

4-3-3

Ukraine Form, potential line up and Tactics

Ukraine has featured twice in the European Championships, in 2012 and 2016 and they were knocked out in the group stage.

But Ukraine should not be underestimated based on their past. They topped their Euro Qualifiers group finishing above Portugal and while conceding only 4 goals. Only Belgium and Turkey conceded fewer goals than Ukraine during the qualifiers (3 goals).

Ukraine are currently ranked 24th by FIFA.

After the fine form during the Euro 2021 qualifiers, Ukraine has had some terrible form. Ukraine lost 6 out of 8 games in 2020 and they drew their first 4 games in 2021. But they won their last two friendlies that were the warm up games for the Euros.

Ukraine did not have an amazing campaign during Euro 2020. They lost their opening game against the Netherlands 3-2. They followed this up with a victory over North Macedonia and then lost 1-0 to Austria.

Ukraine qualified for the round of 16 as the last team to qualify for the knockouts based on a 3rd place finish in their group.

However, Ukraine played quite well against Sweden in the round of 16 and qualified for the quarter finals thanks to an amazing performance from Andriy Yarmolenko and Oleksander Zinchenko.

Ukraine Tactics

Ukraine’s manager is the legendary retired striker Andriy Shevchenko who played with AC Milan and Chelsea. He has been managing the team since 2016 and lays an emphasis on tactical flexibility.

Tactically, Ukraine tend to play with width coming from the full backs and the attacking forwards playing more centrally.

In 2021, Shevchenco has a clear preference for playing a system with 3 center backs.

Serhiy Sydorchuk is their main defensive midfielder who is essential in providity extra solidity at the back this allows 24 year old Oleksandr Zinchenko, who plays for Manchester City and Ruslan Malinovskyi to be more daring in attack.

24 year old Roman Yaremchuk is their main striker who is strong in the air and can hold up the ball to let his teammates join him in attack.

Ukraine typically like to set up in a 3-5-2 formation. Zinchenko starts on the left midfield while Yarmelnko starts as the second striker on the right. In defence, Zinchenko and the other wide midfielder drop back with the three defenders while Yarmelnko tends to drop into midfield which gives Ukraine a 5-4-1 shape.

In attack, the two wide midfielders will move forward and one of the midfielders will also join in attack, effectively giving Ukraine a 3-2-5 shape.

Ukraine are a counter attacking side and they love to press their opponents as soon as they lose the ball. This is reflected in the stats as well. Ukraine has the 4th highest interceptions per game.

Ukraine Predicted line up

We expect Ukraine’s line up to be largely unchanged in the Ukraine vs England game.

Ukraine vs England Euro 2020 Predictions

On paper England should win this match effortlessly. However, if you consider how many upsets “weaker” teams caused by defeating the strongest teams in the tournament, it would be unwise to think that England will most definitely win.

Ukraine is a team that is full of surprises and they have shown that during the Euro 2020. Ukraine will be pressing England aggressively and they will not go down without a fight.

Ukraine do have some amazing players like Yarmalenko who has the 4th highest number of assists in the tournament, Zinchenko who is a dangerous threat from the left and 25 year old Roman Yaremchuk who had an amazing season at club level.

We think that England will continue their 7 game streak of maintaining clean sheets and win 1-0. We don’t expect to score a lot of goals considering England has registered the lowest number of shots per game at 6.8 shots per game.

This is less than half of 12 average goals scored per game when the stats of all teams in Euro 2020 are included.

Raheem Sterling has scored 3 of England’s 4 goals and he is in fine form. It might be a good idea to bet on him to score in the Ukraine vs England game as well.

Czech Republic vs Denmark Euro 2021 Predictions and Betting Tips

Czech Republic vs Denmark Euro 2021 Predictions and Betting Tips

Czech Republic vs Denmark will be the third game in the quarter finals of Euro 2020. The Czech Republic vs Denmark match will take place on July 3 at 1800 hrs Central Eastern European Summer Time at the Olympic Stadium in Baku,Azerbaijan.

Czech Republic Form, potential line up and Tactics

Going into the Euros, the Czech weren’t exactly in great form. They played 5 games before the euros and won just 2 of those games, lost 2 and drew 1 game. They weren’t exactly prolific in front of the goal either, scoring only 1 goal per game in their last 4 games and conceding 7 goal in these games.

The Czech however put in a decent performance during the group stage.  They qualified for the knockout stage by finishing 3rd in Group D. They had the same number of points as Croatia (4) and finished the group stage with 1 win, 1 draw and 1. The Czech scored only 3 goals during these 3 games but conceded just 2.

The Czech aslo pulled off arguably one of the best upsets in this tournament when they defeated the Netherlands in order to qualify for the quarter finals.

The Czech set up in a 4-2-3-1 formation with the wide attackers cutting inside and the wide defenders providing the width in attack.

The midfielders like to sit deep and help out in defence and provide long balls to the attacking players when the fullbacks push high up the pitch during an attack. Vladimír Coufal is excellent at providing crossess and passes from the right. He provided an amazing cross from the right which was headed in by their star striker in their first goal in their first game in Euro 2020 against Scotland.

Their first choice midfielder is 26 year old Tomáš Souček who is an all round midfielder who is talented in protecting the defence, competing for aerial balls, creating long passess and progressing the ball forward while Alex Kral is more of a defensive midfielder who likes to stay a bit further back but can also push into the opposition box if necessary.

Their captain Vladimír Darida starts ahead of these 2 midfielders and is the attacking midfielder who sets up attacks and is an amazing creative presence in attack. Darida links up well with their star striker, 25 year old Patrik Schick.

Schick can drop deep and link up play with other attackers and is amazing in the air. Schick scored all the 3 goals for the Czech Republic during their group stage matches.

Schick is flanked by 25 year old Jakub Jankto on the left and Lukáš Masopust on the right.

The Czech like to press the opposition with these 4 attacking players when they don’t have the ball while the wide defenders fall back to form a back 4 and are given an extra layer of protection by their midfielders Souček and Kral.

The Czech have some weaknesses that are important to note. They are vulnerable to quick runs behind their center backs from quick attackers especially from wide and they don’t exactly have the most talented center backs which leaves them quite vulnerable at the back.

Czech Republic Predicted line up

Apart from the re-introduction of Kral, we expect the Czech line up to remain unchanged.

Denmark Form, Predicted line up and Tactics

Denmark are the 10th best team in the world and the 7th best team in Europe according to FIFA. They are the 5th best ranked team of the 8 teams that have qualified for the quarterfinals in Euro 2020.

Before starting their Euro 2020 campaign Denmark were in excellent form. They were unbeaten in the 5 games they played in 2021 before their opening game in Euro 2021 against Finland and finished second in their group in the 2020-21 season of the Nations League.

Check out our predictions for the Euro 2020 Final!

Denmark’s group consisted of Belgium which is ranked number 1 by FIFA and England which is ranked as the 3rd best team in Europe. Denmark finished above England which is an indication of just how good the Danes are.

Denmark’s Performance in Euro 2020

Denmark lost it’s opening game against Finland, a side which is ranked 54th and was the team with second lowest ranking in Europe in Euro 2020.

But this loss was an unfortunate one for Denmark considering the major incident that occurred during this game. During their game against Finland, one of Denmark’s most talented players, Christian Eriksen collapsed on the field and nearly lost his life due to a cardiac arrest.

Denmark’s Captain, Simon Kjaer acted like a true leader when Eriksen collapsed. He  dashed from his position and pushed aside other players to immediately place Eriksen into the recovery position.

Kjaer realised what was going on and worked to stop the 29-year-old from swallowing his tongue and then took the life-saving decision to start giving CPR on Eriksen. As the EMTs arrived on the pitch he rounded up his team mates to form a wall around Eriksen to protect his privacy from the prying eyes of the media.

Denmark decided to continue this match in spite of the psychological shock they endured as a team and registered 22 attempts on goal compared to Finland’s one and only attempt.

Denmark would lose their second match against Belgium 1-2 but in spite of losing against the best ranked team in the world, the Danes put up a good fight registering 21 attempts compared to Belgium’s 6.

Denmark’s game against Russia was where Denmark started to truly shine though. They thrashed Russia 4-1 to qualify for the round of 16 as runners up of their group.

Denmark was arguably the most attacking team to qualify for the knockout stage as they had the highest number of attempts.

The Danes would replicate their form in their first knockout game against Wales, which they won 4-0 to book a place in the quarter finals against the Czech Republic.

Denmark has some pretty impressive stats that would make you want to watch them play:

Denmark is tied with Italy on the second highest scoring team after bagging 9 goals in 4 games.Denmark has the second highest number of shots per game.Denmark has made the second highest number of dribbles per game amongst all the teams that are currently in the quarterfinals and the third highest of all the teams in Euro 2020.

Denmark tactics

Denmark has been lining up in a 3-4-3 for their last 3 games. The Danes use this formation in a very interesting way. The 2 central midfielders tend to stay compact and not burst forward to join the attack.

If Denmark decides to pile on the pressure and one of the midfielders notices a gap in the opposition box that can be exploited he will run into it. But once this midfielder vacates that space One of the two wide center backs will occupy that position to prevent counter attacks.

In the game against Wales Andreas Christensen could be seen doing exactly that when he would progress up the midfield.

Denmark’s center backs are excellent on the ball and unlike most teams, it can be argued that the center backs are the primary source for progressing the ball forward instead of the midfield.

If the opposition forwards press the center backs, then the midfield takes over this role.

This is an excellent advantage for Denmark because it allows them to progress the ball from multiple areas without any problem.

As you can see from the image below, Denmark can have 5 players in attack and 4 players in midfield when they are attacking. This daring tactic allows them to have a numerical advantage in midfield.

Czech Republic vs Denmark Euro 2021 Odds

Bookmakers are offering the following odds for the Czech Republic vs Denmark game in quarter finals of Euro 2020:

Czech Republic vs Denmark Euro 2021 Predictions

The Czech Republic vs Denmark could turn out to be one of the most interesting matches in Euro 2020 in our opinion and we will give you all the reasons why…

Both the teams apply tactics that can give an advantage to one team over the other. For instance if you remember correctly, the Czech love to press quite aggressively with their 4 attackers while the Danes like to progress the ball with their defenders.

This would mean that the Danes will have to be very careful while progressing the ball from the ball as they would have numerical disadvantage on their own half (Denmark will have 3 at the back vs the Czech’s 4 attackers)

But the Danes will have an advantage in midfield if the manage to progress the ball beyond their own half as they one or two of the center backs would move forward to join the midfield. This would help them to maintain dominance in midfield and prevent the Czech to build from the midfield when the Danes lose the ball.

When the Danes can push the Czech to their own half the Czech Republic would defend in a compact 4-5-1.

This means that the Danes would have a numerical advantage against the Czech Republic’s defense however, this also means that if the Czech decide to be daring, they would have a numerical advantage in counter attacks because they would have 5 men there vs Denmark who will have 3.

These seemingly paradoxical styles of football could mean that we will see a very dynamic match with both teams playing a high tempo game where they have to quickly transition from defence to attack.

If we take into account the fact that the Danes have the second highest number of attempts on goal we can expect this game to have plenty of goals.

Based on the odds set by the bookmaker we can also reasonably expect this game to be a closely contested one.

Based on these facts we predict that Denmark will win but not by a huge margin in a game that will have a lot of goals.

We predict that Denmark will beat the Czech Republic 3-2.

Czech Republic vs Denmark Betting Tips

If you read our articles on football betting systems and football betting tips, you would realize Czech Republic vs Denmark is the perfect match to place a bet on in Euro 2020.

The reason for that is simple, the odds for both teams are above 2.0 and it will be a closely contested match.

This means that you can double your money by betting on Denmark and triple your money if you bet on Czech Republic.

That being said, we have a betting tip for you that could help you win some money no matter who wins…

Place one bet on Denmark to win and one bet(of equal amount) on Czech Republic  to win. In this case you only lose your money if there is a draw but that is unlikely to happen in such a crucial game.

So essentially what you do is you split your budget for the game. Let’s say you have a budget of €200 for this game. You place one bet of €100 on Denmark and another €100 on Czech Republic.

If Czech Republic wins your Profit percentage would be 92.5% because your profit would be €385-€200=€185 and 185 is 92.5% of your investment of €200.

If Denmark wins you would still end up with a 6% profit (€212-€200=€12 is 6% of 200).

Sure, this system means that your profit percentage would be lower if you just bet on one team (112 % profit if you just bet on Denmark and 285% if you just bet on Czech Republic) but this system ensures that you don’t lose any money.

Keep in mind that this is not a fool proof system. If the match ends in a draw you will lose but as we pointed out earlier, the likelihood of a draw is very low.

Italy vs Spain Euro 2020 Predictions and Betting Tips

Italy vs Spain Euro 2020 Predictions and Betting Tips

After nearly a month of fascinating Football this summer, we have finally reached the semi-finals of Euro 2020.

Italy vs Spain will be the first semi final match in Euro 2020. The Italy vs Spain match will take place on July 6 at 2100 hrs Central Eastern European Summer Time at the Wembley Stadium in London.

Italy’s Current Form

Italy waltzed through to the round of 16 as winners of group A, winning each of their 3 games and then followed it up with an excellent performance against Austria in the round of 16.

Italy seemed to face its first real challenge in the semi finals when they faced the best ranked team in the world, Belgium.

Belgium were in control of the game and defending with determination. Belgium were compact in defence with 5 men at the back which proved to be effective against most teams during Euro 2020.

This is reflected in the statistics as well. Prior to facing Italy, Belgium had one of the best defensive records in the European Championship. They just conceded 1 goal in 4 games.

Belgium’s defense was effective in cancelling out one of the most attacking teams during Euro 2020, Portugal. Portugal attempted 23 shots against Belgium in the round of 16 knockout game which was arguably the highest number of attempts of any team during Euro 2020.

These facts stand as evidence of how strong Belgium’s defence was.

In our game preview for the Belgium vs Italy game we had mentioned just how talented Italy was in breaking even the tightest defences and they did exactly that in the 31st minute.

Verratti made an excellent pass to Barrella who was in the box, Barrella was being marked by 3 Belgian defenders as soon as he received the ball and then was tackled, and still managed to find his feet and instantly make a clinical shot into the far corner which caught Belgium’s goalkeeper, Courtois by surprise.

This goal demonstrates amazing athleticism and technical quality from Barrella and Italy as a team.

The second goal from Italy which was scored by Lorenzo Insigne was also a piece of technical brilliance.

Check out our predictions for Italy vs England in the Euro 2020 final!
He dribbled from the center of the pitch and made an excellent shot past 3 Belgium defenders outside the box which was again placed excellently that beat Courtois again.

These facts clearly demonstrate Italy’s attacking prowess and their technical ability to score even against the best defenses in the world.

But apart from their amazing attacking prowess Italy also showed determination in defence.

After Belgium conceded in the 31st minute Belgium attacked Italy ruthlessly.

Belgium made 10 attempts on goal which is higher than the 8.3 attempts per game they attempted. In fact this is the second highest number of attempts they made during Euro 2020. This number is even higher than the attempts Belgium made against Portugal.

Although Belgium made several amazing attempts, and eventually scored through a penalty. In the second half Belgium were extremely ruthless in attack. Belgium were also especially quick in transitioning from defence to attack.

But the Italian defence stayed strong and the game ended 2-1.

With this win over Belgium, Italy are now undefeated in 32 games! The last time Italy lost the game was close to 3 years ago in September 2018!

With these facts in mind it seems very likely that Spain might have a hard time winning against such a talented team.

Italy Tactics

In the picture above from whoscored.com, you can see Italy positioning  in attack against Belgium. This is very much different from the way they positioned themselves usually when they are in attack when Italy tends to push much higher up the pitch, just like in the picture below:

Did you notice the difference in between the two pictures? As you can see,Italy? For starters  Jorginho (number 8) is sitting further back, in fact all the players are from their usual attacking position (which is picture 2).

The whole team is quite compact in attack. This is a good indication of discipline in Italy’s build up because if there is too much space between the players that space can be exploited by the opposition team.

Being compact in attack is hard to do because individual players can become a bit too excited while pressing without the ball or passing and running forward with the ball.

Another key difference we can see is that the right full back and the other center back have ffallen further back with the main center back and Number 6 and Number 18 (Verratti and Barrella) are closer to the wide forwards (Numbers 10 and 14) respectively.

This suggests that the 2 midfielders played close to the 2 forwards which created a lot of opportunities and passes for them. The other full back, Spinnazzola also was cautious and was not positioned too further forward demonstrating his discipline with regards to his defensive duties.

We can also see that most of Italy came from the left. In fact, 50% of their attacks came from the left compared to 23% from the center and 27% from the right.

From these observations we can conclude that Italy are a tactically disciplined and technically gifted team.

Italy Predicted line up for Italy vs Spain

Spinnazzola was a key player for Italy considering he was essential in assisting the attacks as a left full back.

He was injured during the game and medical examinations after the game revealed that he ruptured his Achilles tendon. This is a serious injury and ends Spinnazzola’s journey in Euro 2020.

We at slotfreespin hope Spinnazzola recovers from this unfortunate injury.

We don’t expect any changes to the line up but we are not sure about the right forward spot because both Chiesa and Berrardi are equally talented so don’t be surprised if one starts over the other.

Spain Form

Before starting their Euro 2020 campaign Spain was experiencing a great run of form. Spain qualified for this season’s nations league finals. They scored 13 goals and conceded just 3 goals on their triumphant march to the finals.

These problems were also evident during Spain’s group stage games. Spain’s first two matches ended up in a draw. Goals were also hard to come by with one of the games ending 0-0. But Spain turned it around with their amazing performance against Slovakia with the game ending 5-0!

The knockout game against Croatia seemed to be going well for Spain. After conceding a goal in the 20th minute Spain equalized in the 38th minute . They would go on to put on a strong performance in the second half and were leading thanks to a goal in the 57th and then another one from Ferran Torres in the 77th minute.

After leading 3-1 at this point, qualification to the quarterfinals seemed guaranteed but Spain conceded two goals in quick succession. In the last 10 minutes of the game.

The game would go on to extra time and Spain would score two goals to win the game 5-3.

This game showcased an important weakness in the Spanish side, the propensity to concede goals from counter-attacks.

Spain’s coach recognized this problem and instructed his side to play more cautiously in the quarter final game against Switzerland which ended in yet another draw. The game was eventually decided through a penalty shootout.

The Spaniards like to press but with bigger teams, they often leave out space that the opposition tends to exploit well which we saw in their games against Croatia and Switzerland.
Keep these facts in mind as we head towards the predictions for the Italy vs Spain game in the semi final of Euro 2020…

Italy vs Spain Euro 2020 Predictions

We can clearly see from the bookmaker odds that Italy are the favorites to win this semi final game between Italy vs Spain. If you checked out the review we did on Italy’s current form and performance and compare that to Spain’s we can clearly see why that is.

We believe that Spain will yet again try to be aggressive while pressing Italy because they must have noticed that if they remain compact without pressing Italy can shoot from long and score just like Italy did with Insigne’s goal against Belgium.

But as we pointed out earlier, Spain are prone to counter attacks when they go on the offensive and press aggressively. Italy on the other hand are more than capable of scoring on counter-attacks.

If Spain do decide to sit back then Italy will surely break them down because they broke down the strongest defensive teams in the world in their game against Belgium. We also talked about how they broke the Belgian defence.

Because of Spinnazzola’s injury we expect Spain to attack from the right in order to make the most of his absence.

But in spite of this fact, we believe that Italy will win 2-1.

Italy vs Spain Betting Tips

From these odds we can clearly see that Italy are favorites to win this quarterfinal game.

If you read our articles on football betting systems and football betting tips, you would realize Italy vs Spain is the perfect match to place a bet on in Euro 2020.

The reason for that is simple, the odds for both teams are above 2.0 and it will be a closely contested match.

This means that you can more than double your money by betting on Italy and triple your money if you bet on Spain or a draw.

That being said, we have a betting tip for you that could help you win some money no matter who wins…

Place one bet on Italy to win and one bet(of equal amount) on Spain  to win. In this case you only lose your money if there is a draw but that is unlikely to happen in such a crucial game.

So essentially what you do is you split your budget for the game. Let’s say you have a budget of €200 for this game. You place one bet of €100 on Italy and another €100 on Spain.

If Spain wins your Profit percentage would be 55% because your Profit would be €310-€200=€110 and 110 is 55% of your investment of 200.

If Italy wins you would still end up with a 23.5% profit (€255-€200=€47 is 23.5% of 200).

Sure, this system means that your profit percentage would be lower if you just bet on one team (210 % profit if you just bet on Spain and 147% if you just bet on Italy) but this system reduces the chances that you will lose your money.

Keep in mind that this is not a fool proof system. If the match ends in a draw you will lose but as we pointed out earlier, the likelihood of a draw is very low.

England vs Denmark Euro 2021 Predictions and Betting Tips

England vs Denmark Euro 2021 Predictions and Betting Tips

We have finally reached the semi-finals of Euro 2020 after nearly a month of fascinating Football this summer.

England vs Denmark will be the first semi final match in Euro 2020. The England vs Denmark match will take place on July 6 at 2100 hrs Central Eastern European Summer Time at the Wembley Stadium in London.

England Form

TeamGoals ScoredGoals ConcededShots per gameItaly11220.2Spain12519.8Denmark11517.2England807.4

From the numbers it might look like of all the teams that qualified England are probably the
weakest team. But that would be an incorrect assumption. We will explain this by breaking down

England’s form can be broken down in three categories:

England’s form before Euro 2020England’s form during the group stage in Euro 2020England’s form during the knockout stage in Euro 2020

England’s form before Euro 2020

Before their opening game against Croatia in the group stage in Euro 2020, England were undefeated in the 5 games they played and just conceded once during those games.

Goals were hard to come by for England with England scoring only an average of only 1.5 goals per game.

England’s form During the Group Stage in Euro 2020

England won group D, a group that consisted of World Cup finalists, Croatia. England won 2 games and drew 1. They scored only 2 goals during the group stage. This means that England now are the side to top their group with the fewest goals scored during the European Championships.

At 7.3 shots per game England also had the third fewest shots as well during the group stage in Euro 2021.

However, these low numbers in attack were in direct contrast to England’s performance in defence. England ranked 6th in terms of the fewest shots allowed to their opponents at 8.7 shots per game.

England also did not concede a single goal during the group stage, a distinction they shared with fellow semi-finalists, Italy.

This is the first time England has qualified for the knockout stage in a major tournament without conceding a single goal since the 1986 World Cup.

England’s form during the knockout stage in Euro 2020

England faced Germany in the round of 16. A lot of doubts were being raised by fans and football pundits alike in regards to whether or not England will play the same “boring” style of football.

England surprised everyone by  putting in a solid performance against Germany and scoring 2 goals. They replicated and even improved upon their performance against Germany in their quarter finals game against Ukraine where England scored 4 goals.

Of the 48 that have been played so far in Euro, there were only 5 games where a team scored 4 or more goals. England vs Ukraine was one of them suggesting that England is more than capable of scoring plenty of goals and winning in style.

England are now unbeaten in 11 games and they have not conceded a single goal in the last 7 games which is a pretty impressive feat. We can reasonably conclude that going into the England vs Denmark game in the semi finals,England are in good form.

England Tactics

England has used 4-2-3-1 consistently in recent times. That’s exactly how they lined up during the group stage. However, They switched to 3-4-3 during the quarterfinal game against Germany and then switched back to a 4-2-3-1 again.

It’s hard to predict which formation they would use in the England vs Denmark game. We are going to guess England will line up in a 4-2-3-1 and discuss the tactics they will use against Denmark.

But don’t worry there aren’t significant differences between the two formations.

In defence, the 3 attacking midfielders will back into midfield and England’s formation will look like a 4-5-1. Harry kane will stand shoulder to shoulder against the opposition defenders looking for deflections, hold the ball and create through balls for his team mates for a counter attack.

When it comes to attack, England prefer to build up patiently from the back. England prefer to attack from the left. Luke Shaw bombs forward and is a threat from out wide.Sterling tucks into the box, Mount moves a bit to the right and into the box while the right winger also moves into the box but remains a bit wide.

This leaves room for the more “defensive” fullback to move forward if England want to switch the play to the other side of the field. Rice and Kalvin Phillips stay a bit further back and provide defensive solidity against counter attacks.

England Predicted Line up For England vs Denmark

Jadon Sancho put in a decent performance against Ukraine but we expect Foden to take his place since he seems to be the preferred option in that position.

4-2-3-1

Denmark Form

Denmark’s form can be broken down in three categories:

Pre Euro 2020First 2 games during the group stageThe final group stage game and the knockout stage in Euro 2020

Pre Euro 2020 form

Denmark are the 10th best team in the world and the 7th best team in Europe according to FIFA. They are the 5th best ranked team of the 8 teams that have qualified for the quarterfinals in Euro 2020.

Before starting their Euro 2020 campaign Denmark were in excellent form. They were unbeaten in the 5 games they played in 2021 before their opening game in Euro 2021 against Finland and finished second in their group in the 2020-21 season of the Nations League.

The first 2 group stage games

Denmark lost it’s opening game in the European championship against Finland, a game that continued after a life threatening incident in which one of their best players, Christian Eriksen collapsed on the field due to a cardiac arrest.

Thanks to the actions of his teammates and medical staff, Eriksen survived and is doing well. He urged his team mates to continue the game which Denmark lost 1-0 in spite of making 23 shots.

Denmark’s next game was against the best ranked team in the world, Belgium. Denmark would lose this game 2-1 but they yet again performed quite well registering 21 shots compared to Belgium’s 6.

The final group stage game and the knockout stage in Euro 2020

Denmark faced Russia in their final group stage game. Denmark scored 4 goals and won the game 4-1. This result allowed them to qualify for the knockout stage as runners up of group B.

Check out our predictions for the Euro 2020 Final!

Going into the knockout stages, Denmark registered the second highest number of shots at and an average of 19.7 shots per game on average. Denmark also won the 4 highest number of aerial duels per game and conceded the third fewest number of shots from their opponents at 4.3 shots per game

Denmark would go on to replicate this form and beat Wales 4-0 in the round of 16 and the Czech Republic in the quarter finals to reach their first semi finals in a major tournament since Euro 1992, which was their maiden European championship.

Denmark is in an impressive form as you can see from the numbers above. They are tied with Italy on the second spot for the teams with the most number of goals, they are third in the tournament so far in terms of average number of shots per game and they also have pretty decent defensive record.

Denmark Tactics

Denmark has been lining up in a 3-4-3 for their last 3 games. Denmark tends to apply this formation in a very interesting way. The 2 central midfielders tend to stay compact and avoid the urge to burst forward and to join the attack.

If one of the midfielders finds space in the option box that could be a good goal scoring opportunity, one of the midfielders will run into that space. When this midfielder vacates that space One of the two wide center backs will occupy that position to prevent counter attacks.

But In the game against Wales Andreas Christensen, who is the center back, could be seen doing exactly that when he would progress up the midfield.

Denmark Predicted Line up For England vs Denmark

3-4-3

England vs Denmark Predictions

This is a tough game to predict because on paper both the teams can win against each other. But England have better quality of players on the bench and in their squad overall. This will certainly give them an edge against Denmark.

As you will see, the bookmakers heavily favor England to win this semi final match. We tend to agree with the bookmakers on this game.

A draw is also highly likely when we consider the fact that that when these two sides previously met in the Nations League in September 2020, the game ended in a 0-0 draw.

But the stakes are higher this time around since it is a semi-final of a major competition. Both sides will go in for the goal that kills the game.

We believe that due to England’s increasing goal scoring abilities during the knockout stage in Euro 2020 combined with their amazing records in maintaining clean sheets this game will end up 2-0 in England’s favor.

But before we get there let’s take a look at the numbers and how Italy and England reached the final…

Bookmaker odds for Euro 2020 Winners Before the tournament

We have mentioned the odds and probability of the top 8 teams that bookmakers expected to win just before Euro 2021 kicked off. These odds were calculated on June 7 2021, just 4 days before Euro 2020 kicked off.

As we can see from the data above, France were clear favorites to lift the European Championship in 2021 and were closely followed by England .

Italy on the other hand were not even in the top 5 teams in terms of probability of winning Euro 2020.

Biggest Upsets During Euro 2020

Just like many major tournaments,. Euro 2020 saw some major upsets. How did Italy beat the odds to reach the final of Euro 2020? Why did France not reach the final? We will answer all those questions below:

The first major upset could have occurred on June 23 when Germany faced Hungary. Hungary was leading 2-1 in the 68th minute. This would have resulted in Germany not qualifying for the knockout stage in a major tournament since the 1984 World Cup. But a goal from Goretzka saved Germany from this fate and they qualified for the knockout stage where they faced England.
The first major upset in Euro 2020 happened on june 27 in the round of 16 when Switzerland who had 1.45% probability to win Euro 2020 defeated the tournament favorites France.
The second major upset happened the next day when the Netherlands were defeated by Czech Republic. The Czech Republic had a 0.76% chance of winning Euro 2020 compared to the Netherlands who had a 7.26% chance and performed exceptionally well during the group stage.

Who will be the Top Scorer in Euro 2020 Odds and Predictions

PlayerGoalsOddsProbabilityCristiano Ronaldo52.4740%Patrik Schick52.4740%Harry Kane44.223.80%Raheem Sterling3214.80%Ciro Immobile21001%

From the odds table for the top scorer in Euro 2020 we can see that Ronaldo and Patrick Schick seem to be the favorites to win the golden boot in Euro 2020.

Harry Kane comes in next after scoring 4 goals in his last 4 games. He has a 23.8% probability of being the top scorer and we take into consideration the fact that he is also adept at making assists, he has good odds at being the top scorer in Euro 2020.

It could be hard for Raheem Sterling to be but it’s not impossible. He hasn’t scored a goal in the last 2 games but if he manages to score 1 he could end up being the top scorer in Euro 2021. With odds of 21, this could help you potentially win $210 from a $10 bet.

Ciro immobile has a very slim chance of being the top scorer in Euro 2020 with bookmakers giving him a 1% probability. No player has scored a hatrick in the history of the European Championship so it seems unlikely that he might score a hatrick and Harry Kane doesn’t score as well.

But this might be a good bet for a small amount of say $5, which you expect to lose and are placing a bet for fun considering the 100x payout.

Now onto our predictions for the Euro 2020 Final between Italy and England.

Italy vs England Euro 2020 Final Predictions

The Italy vs England game in the finals of Euro 2020 will be a very hard game to predict since both of these teams are evenly matched.

In order to make our predictions we will be relying on the odds set by bookmakers, the form of each team in the tournament and statistics. We won’t be relying on the head to head past results between Italy and England because those games have been played over years.

So let’s get started with comparing the form of Italy and England

England and Italy Comparison of Performance during Euro 2020

England is a team that has been progressively getting better during the course of Euro 2021 while Italy has remained consistent in its performance.

During the group stage, England qualified with 2 wins and a draw and scored just 2 goals but conceded 0 goals. Italy on the other hand scored 7 goals, and conceded 0 goals.

TeamGoals scoredGoals concededShots per gamePossessionItaly702059%England207.354%

Concerns were being raised by England’s “cautious” playing style and some pundits expected England to lose against Germany in the knockout stage. However, England surprised the pundits and won 2-0 against Germany while playing some good entertaining football.

This was a historic win for England and the first time they defeated Germany in the knockout stage of a major tournament in 55 years.

Italy beat Austria in extra time, a team that was renowned for its ability to defend.

In the quarterfinals England faced a relatively easy opponent in Ukraine and yet again played some fantastic football scoring 4 goals and won the game 4-0.

Italy faced a formidable opponent in Belgium who are ranked as the number one team by FIFA. Italy were leading 2-0 in the second half before conceding a penalty which Lukaky converted.

Italy held on as Belgium attacked ruthlessly in the second half while also creating some good scoring opportunities on the counter against the best team in the world.

In the semi finals England dominated Denmark and registered the most shots in any game they played so far with 59% possession and 20 shots while Denmark only managed only 6.

Italy faced another difficult opponent in Spain. Spain were also favorites to win Euro 2020 at the start of the tournament. Italy struck first and then defended well but Spain ultimately equalized with 10 minutes to go and the game went into extra time and was decided on penalties.

We can see that England faced one of the favorites (Germany) on their triumphant march to the final of Euro 2021. Italy on the other hand had to beat 2 other favorites, Belgium and Spain in order to earn their place in the final.

Overall Form of Italy and England

England are unbeaten in 12 games while Italy is unbeaten in 33 games. Both teams have a good defensive record with England’s 7 game streak of clean sheets broken by Denmark while Italy’s clean sheet record was broken in the round of 16.

Italy vs England stats

TeamGoals scoredGoals concededShots per gamePossessionItaly1231852%England1019.553%

After the knockout stage, England has picked up a lot of goals and their shots per game have increased. Both teams look evenly matched in terms of the team stats

Now we will compare the stats of key players starting with the midfield

Italy beat England in terms of creating through balls with a combined average of 1.8 through balls between Jorginho(11th highest through ball rate in Euro 2020),Insigne,Immobile and Barrella.

Only Luke shaw (18th) features in terms of creating long balls in the top 20 players who created through balls

Italy are also superior in terms of key passes stats

Barrella has created the third highest key passes per game, followed by Insigne who is seventh and Spinnazzola who is 15th

England only has Mason Mount on that list of top 20 players in Euro 2020 with the highest key passes per game and he is ranked 16th

The Italians also dominate in stats for shots per game with 3 players featuring in the top 20 while England have no players on that list

If you look at the stats for interceptions and tackles per game you will notice Italy yet again outperforms England.

Italy vs England Euro 2020 Final Odds

The odds are constantly changing for this game. As of july 8 2021,bookmakers are offering the following odds for the Italy vs England game in the Euro 2020 final:

England 2.65Draw 3.00Italy 2.95

From these odds we can clearly see that bookmakers believe that the game odds are very close between the two games which means that Bookmakers believe the game could go either way.

However, based on the lower odds and payout for England, we can see that bookmakers favor England to win.

Who will win in the final of Euro 2020 between Italy and England

We at slotfreespin disagree with the bookmakers odds and favor Italy to win Euro 2020. We disagree with the bookmakers because there is a chance that bookmakers are offering lower payouts for England because English fans around the world might be more exciting and backing their team compared to Italians.

Keep in mind that the gambling profits are larger in the UK compared to Italy. The UK market is worth $3.8 billion while the Italian market is worth $1.7 billion.

We believe Italy will win by very fine margins but England will manage to score. We predict Italy will win 2-1 in the Euro 2020 final.

Italy will in our opinion because statistically they have technically better players with higher interceptions, tackles per game, key passes per game and through balls per game compared to England’s players.

Bookmaker offers for betting on Italy vs England in the Euro 2020 final
